3Good beginners set, but you can find better
By Monty
Purchased May 3, 2010
For the sake of organization I'll divide this review up into the components of what the purchase includes.

1. The Bass Guitar - First off, it's 43" long, meaning it is just 4" short of being a full sized bass. I've played a wide range of basses and can say this one buzzes too easily because the frets are relatively high. The frets hung over the neck a tiny bit leading to scratches when moving your hand up and down the neck, but this can be fixed by filling them down. The manufacturer apparently got lazy on the E string because it was threaded improperly, but oddly enough the rest of the strings were perfectly fine, but seeing as they were factory strings, I did indeed replace them not soon after getting it. I highly recommend tightening the tension rod on the neck to prevent the neck from bending. The factory strings were already loose and adding tension from replacing them with new strings will cause the neck to bend if the tension rod is not tightened. Also, the scratch guard had a few smudges on it, but nothing major. Other than that, I have no complaints. It works with different amps, sound is alright, it's fairly easy to replace the strings, even if you've never done it before, but I wouldn't recommend using it to play live. This is for the practice room and beginners, and maybe kids (but not all, remember it's 43" long).

2. The Amp - There are two ports (input and phones) and four knobs (Volume, Treble, Middle, and Bass). However, moving the effects knobs around doesn't create much of a noticeable difference, except for the bass. It's only 10 watts, so you're limited in how loud it can get without hurting your ears, but it does get a good grade for portability. However, less than two months after buying this package the amp could no longer play lower frequencies. Essentially meaning the amp blew out. The input cable that's provided does it's job, but I'm now noticing that it has to positioned just right in the input or it will go silent.

3. The Accessories - The case it comes protects it good if you're careful about how you move it around. However it isn't a padded case, just one ply vinyl. It's also somewhat of a tight fit for the bass, so if you plan on any travel, you'll want to get a better one. It also came with a little sack with picks, two Allen wrenches, and a spare G string (laugh now if you must). What you do with the picks and the string, I don't care, but DO NOT lose the Allen wrenches. You will need them to tighten the tension rod and other hex-headed screws and unless you have a full set of Allen wrenches, you won't be able to. The strap... well the strap wasn't in the box so I can't really say anything about it, but when I contacted Austin Bazaar about it they were very nice and offered me a discount on my next purchase.

The bottom line is that this a beginners kit at its core. There are cheaper kits out there, but this one had fantastic quality. However if you're willing to spend more money I'd overlook this for other, better guitars. All in all, a good price for what you get. Last updated: November 16, 2010

5Great starter bass!
By Kyle Thompson
Bought this to jam along with my friends & just have fun. Everything I needed to start off playing bass! Before I knew it I was playing live venues at local bars and clubs. I'd recommend it to a friend looking for a great low-priced starter bass.
